The 2025 World Indigenous Traditional Games kicked off at Laiyi Senior High School in Pingtung County on December 10. This year’s event marks the first time Taiwan has hosted an international indigenous sports competition, bringing together approximately 1,100 domestic and international athletes to engage in cultural exchange and international dialogue through the common language of sport.
The core spirit of this year’s event, “Weaving Indigenous Peoples Worldwide,” reflects the coming together of indigenous communities from around the world in Taiwan to exchange historical knowledge, celebrate cultural heritage, and display their strengths and talents through competitive sports.
The opening ceremony began with a performance by more than 300 artists, integrating music, dance, sound, and modern artistic expression. This lively presentation highlighted the dynamism of indigenous culture and the Austronesian spirit, officially announcing the start of the Games.
