2025 World Indigenous Traditional Games Country Introductions|Republic of the Marshall Islands、Republic of Palau

The 2025 World Indigenous Traditional Games features a total of ten competitive events and has invited 11 international teams from nine countries to participate alongside 17 representative teams from Taiwan, including 16 indigenous groups and plains indigenous groups. Starting today, we will successively introduce the participating teams for this year’s Games.

🇲🇭 Republic of the Marshall Islands

Located in the Micronesian islands of the West Pacific, the Marshall Islands is a small island economy. Due to limited natural resources, apart from the capital, Majuro, which has small-scale industrial, commercial, and service sectors, the outer islands mostly rely on household retail. Fishing resources are abundant, making it one of the world’s best fishing grounds. The main income comes from the sale of fishing rights and offshore fishing. Agriculture is primarily focused on coconut, taro, and breadfruit.

The Marshall Islands delegation of 38 representatives for this year’s Games will be led by Jess Gasper Jr., Minister for Culture and Internal Affairs, and co-led by Anthony Mitta Muller, Minister for the Natural Resource and Commerce (who also serves as the President of the Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee).

🇵🇼 Republic of Palau

Palau is located in the Micronesian islands of the West Pacific, composed of eight main islands and approximately 340 smaller islands. It is renowned as “God’s Aquarium” due to its commitment to marine conservation and abundant marine resources. Palau is a matrilineal society where women manage clan lands and the appointment and removal of traditional titles. In today’s democratic constitutional system, Palau still retains the traditional leadership system, and traditional leaders continue to have a profound influence on Palau’s political and social affairs.

For this year’s Games, Sylvester Francis Alonz, Chief of the Division of Youth & Career Development, Bureau of Human Resources, Ministry of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism & Development, Republic of Palau, serves as the head of the delegation, leading 21 members to participate.
