2025 World Indigenous Traditional Games Country Introductions|New Zealand、Tuvalu

🇳🇿 New Zealand

Located in the South Pacific, New Zealand is composed of multiple islands, and the capital is Wellington. The ethnic structure within the country is diverse, including European, Māori, Asian, Pacific Islanders, as well as Middle Eastern, Latin American, and African groups, making it a culturally interwoven island nation.

New Zealand’s and Taiwan’s indigenous peoples have long maintained close exchanges, with many similarities in language, culture, and history between the two sides. The CIP has also repeatedly invited Māori delegations to Taiwan to engage in deep collaboration in fields such as traditional arts, culture, language, and education. Twenty-nine representatives will come to Taiwan for this year’s Games, led by Bernard Te Paa from the Ministry of Māori Development and Sonya Rimene, a Trustee and Director of the Māori Trust Fund. Their participation continues to promote cultural and athletic exchange between the two regions.

🇹🇻Tuvalu

Located in the Southwest Pacific, the country name “Tuvalu” means “eight islands standing together,” and its capital is Funafuti. Locals primarily rely on traditional fishing and growing taro, coconut, breadfruit, and bananas. In recent years, they have become increasingly reliant on imported rice, flour, and vegetables promoted by technical missions. This year’s Games will see 19 official representatives led by Maina Vakafua Talia, the Minister for Home Affairs, Climate Change, and Environment, participating. Additionally, 20 representatives from the Embassy of Tuvalu in Taiwan will join to form a team, totaling 39 representatives participating in the event together, showcasing the cultural vitality of the Pacific island nation.
