The torch for the “2025 World Indigenous Traditional Games” kicked off in Pingtung County on November 27. Having traveled through 39 Indigenous townships, the torch relay arrived today (December 4) at the CIP office, located in the Xinzhuang Joint Office Tower in New Taipei City. CIP Minister Ljaucu Zingrur personally led the warm reception for the relay team. Receiving the torch, a symbol of Indigenous spirit and unity, he expressed his hopes for a smooth relay and a successful conclusion to the Games.

The torch relay is a two-week island-wide relay spanning 55 Indigenous regions. Today, December 4 (Day 8), the torch team departed from the Datong Township Office (Yilan County), passed through the Wulai District Office (New Taipei City) to the CIP, and will soon head south to the Fuxing District Office (Taoyuan City) and the Guanxi Township Office (Hsinchu County). Tomorrow, December 5, the relay enters Jianshi and Wufeng Townships in Hsinchu County before passing through Nanzhuang, Shitan, and Taian Townships in Miaoli County.

Minister Zingrur remarked during his speech that the torch relay does more than announce the Games; it serves as a vital link connecting Indigenous townships across Taiwan and strengthening the emotional ties between them. The day’s route passed through the Atayal tribal areas in Yilan, New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Hsinchu, symbolizing cross-regional cultural connections and the shared prosperity of the ethnic communities.

Minister Zingrur stated in closing that the current torch relay is expected to reach the main venue, Laiyi Senior High School in Pingtung County, on December 10. He expressed hope that the torch’s journey around Taiwan would draw national attention to Indigenous traditional athletic culture, and he invited everyone to join in supporting the athletes.
