The 2025 World Indigenous Traditional Games are scheduled for December 10 to 12. The torch was lit on the evening of November 26, signaling the official start of international exchange. For this year’s event, Taiwan will host about 1,100 athletes from 28 teams across 10 countries competing in 10 traditional events such as archery, log sawing, tug-of-war, net casting, and music and dance. The torch relay aims to showcase the cultural power and sportsmanship of Indigenous communities worldwide.
As the faint white smoke swirled into the sky, the sparkling torch was lit, signifying the official opening of the 2025 World Indigenous Traditional Games.
CIP Minister Ljaucu Zingrur: “The torch relay is starting now, traveling across all our Indigenous communities in Taiwan. We wish for this flame to stay lit until the very end, when it returns to the main venue in Laiyi. Our strong desire is for this event to elevate Taiwan’s visibility and bring the world’s attention to Indigenous peoples.”
The torch lighting marks the start of the international traditional Indigenous sports gathering in Taiwan. The event will see roughly 1,100 athletes from 28 teams across 10 countries competing against one another.

The torch relay will link Indigenous townships throughout Taiwan, including Lanyu, highlighting the distinctive traditions and styles of each community and demonstrating the cultural richness and diversity of Taiwan as the host country.
